ALTON, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An Alton woman suspected of driving under the influence of drugs claimed she "lost control of her body," before crashing.
Susana Hernandez was arrested on a charge of Intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury, jail records show.
At 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 5, an Alton police officer responded to an a call of a crash. When the officer arrived, he found the male victim lying on the ground next to a white Ford F-250.
The man was described as having lacerations to his arm and was having difficulty breathing. The vehicle had damage to its driver side.
The officer saw a second vehicle, a gold GMC Yukon parked east of the Ford, with front end damage. The affidavit stated that the GMC had struck a second vehicle, a ford F-150, which also had damage.
Police spoke with the driver of the GMC, identified as Hernandez. She told officers that she was driving home "and all of a sudden lost control of her body and could not stop her vehicle," the affidavit details.
Hernandez was described as having slurred speech, droopy eyelids and was using a mailbox to keep her balance.
Officers asked if Hernandez took medication, which she said she did, for her anxiety.
The man was transported to DHR priority one, where it was determined he had a fractured arm. An investigator spoke with the man's son, who said that he saw the woman asleep behind the wheel.
Hernandez agreed to have a sample of her blood collected to be tested, according to the affidavit.
She was booked into the Hidalgo County Jail on Aug. 5 on a $60,000 bond.
