BLUETOWN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Several small communities in Cameron County will soon have high-speed Internet available to them.

County officials held a groundbreaking ceremony on March 15. The Internet expansion project is a partnership between Cameron County and VTX1.

It will allow residents who live along the military highway to have accessible internet services. State Representative District 37 Janie Lopez explained what this means to cities like Bluetown.

“Less than 30% of households don’t have broadband. We have been closing that gap. Thank you VTX, along with Governor Abbott, we celebrate the remarkable performance of the Texas economy.”

Also in attendance were Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño who said, “We wanted to find those areas where we could have as quick of an impact as possible in these five areas, starting with Bluetown and Santa Maria fit the bill.”

The other areas will include Lozano, San Pedro, and the area surrounding Isla Blanca.
