HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The organization Veterans Giving Back, discussed their annual toy drive at the Broken Sprocket in Brownsville.
"I was one of those children in need. I grew up with nothing. I know what it's like to not have a Christmas. I know what it's like to want those toys, to see those things. For us to be able to do that now as an adult and give back to the community is just fulfilling. It's something that we need to do and come together as a city, as a community, and take care of our children," said Ruben Hernandez, founder of Veterans Giving Back.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, Dec. 19 at the Broken Sprocket at 6305 Paredes Line Rd. from 6:30 p.m. to 12 a.m.
The event will feature six food trucks, and entertainment is family and pet-friendly. Drop-off locations include Phoenix Cafe, Tip-O-Tex Motors, the Brownsville Police and Fire Department #1, and City Hall.
The event aims to provide toys for children and door prizes for adults. Notable attendees include Cameron County Sheriff-elect Manuel Treviño and Tejano singer Ruby Anne.
The initiative aims to support children and foster community unity.
