The Texas Department of Transportation said on Facebook that the Pharr Fire Department has stopped the gas leak and the expressway has been cleared to reopen, though the Interstate 2 eastbound Frontage Road near Sugar Road remains closed.

The city of Pharr is asking the public to avoid an area where a gas leak has been reported, according to the city spokesperson Michael Martinez.
The gas leak is located on the eastbound side of Frontage Road on Expressway 83.
Currently, both east and westbound main lanes and Frontage lanes from Cage Boulevard and Jackson Road are closed due to the gas leak.
The city doesn’t have an estimated time of reopening or when the gas leak will be fixed, according to Martinez.
“We are asking people to avoid the area, if possible,” Martinez said.
He added that the Pharr Fire Department is on the scene as well as gas companies.
The Texas Department of Transportation announced on Facebook various interchange closures as a result of the gas leak:
>> Interstate 2 eastbound full closure: Jackson Road off ramp to Cage Boulevard on ramp;
>> McAllen to Edinburg overpass closed;
>> Interstate 2 westbound full closure: Cage Boulevard off ramp to Jackson Avenue on ramp;
>> Edinburg to McAllen overpass closed;
>> Interstate 69C southbound double right lane closure before Edinburg to McAllen flyover;
>> Interstate 2 eastbound Frontage Road full closure: Business 83 to Cage Boulevard;
>> and Interstate 2 westbound Frontage Road full closure: Cage Boulevard to Sugar Road on ramp.
