MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Transportation along with Texas A&M AgriLife and other community partners held a free safety program on Thursday for drivers over age 55.
The event, called "CarFit", at Paradise Park in McAllen offered those drivers an opportunity to learn how their cars “fit” them.
"Driving is such a luxury that we have and as we age, we never want that to go away. We want to be able to go and do the things that we want to do," said Pamela Edwards, program coordinator, Texas A&M University AgriLife Extension Service. "Having our keys and our ability to drive is such a privilege, and as we age, we want to hold on to that for as long as possible. Our program allows them to be able to do that and feel confident doing so."
The program was developed by AAA, AARP, and the American Occupational Therapy Association partnership.
