BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Texas Southmost College is now offering its students a new field of study.

Students at TSC can now pursue their education in the field of criminal justice and criminology.

TSC's Tandy Building will be the main building for criminal justice program courses.

The partnership will also allow students who pursue and complete two years of the criminal justice program to transfer directly to Sam Houston upon graduation and verification of their credits.

"We hope that it will provide them [students] with a broader perspective," said Phillip Lyons, Dean of the College of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University. "I think that the need is sufficiently great and it probably will make sense for us in the near future to have a more permanent and more substantial presence here."

Classes for the new criminal justice program will begin Tuesday, Aug. 26.

Students interested in learning more about the program can visit the TSC and Sam Houston websites.
