EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Senator Ted Cruz was among the elected officials at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valle to celebrate a collaboration with Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Cruz was happy to be in Edinburg on Wednesday with UTRGV students, some of whom he recognized with a certificate.
"We're celebrating an incredible partnership between UTRGV and Los Alamos National Laboratory," Cruz said. "There are eight universities in the entire country in a partnership with Los Alamos and UTRGV is one of them."
The collaboration will give interns real-world experience and allows students to find work through the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration.
Cruz says it is an amazing group the students will work with.
"Los Alamos is about as storied as you can get for a scientific institution. After all, they invented the atom bomb. Dr. Bailey, that kind of makes me feel like what the hell have I accomplished in life. It sort of puts things in perspective when it comes to changing the world," he stated.
Tech Source, a group that is part of this partnership also reports being impressed by what they saw at UTRGV.
"Where minds meet, technology develops and networks form to improve our national security," said Curtis Christensen of TechSource. "If I could just take a moment to foot-stomp our nation's security as we toured the facilities earlier and saw the impressive work that's being done. The refrain that keeps coming through is, it matters. It matters, the work that's being done here in these halls in these rooms matters because it's having an impact on the nuclear weapons enterprise."
