Rowe Student Council to host vigil for Adan De La Cruz

MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Nikki Rowe High School Student Council is hosting a vigil to honor the death of their fellow classmate, Adan De La Cruz, who died days after an accident at a house party.

"We invite the community to gather and pray for the De La Cruz family during this difficult time," the student lead page read. "Let’s show our support with love and respect, lifting each other up in unity and prayer. Please bring your prayers, thoughts, and your respect. We hope to see you there as we celebrate the life of a beloved member of our community."

The vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Rowe Football Field.

Just before midnight on Aug. 17, McAllen police responded to the 4700 block of North Bentsen Road regarding reports that a minor, later identified as Adan De La Cruz, attempted to jump from the roof into a pool, but slipped, landed on the ground and hit his head, according to documents obtained by ValleyCentral.

De La Cruz died days later from his injuries, as confirmed by McAllen Independent School District, where the young man attended as a senior linebacker on the Nikki Rowe Football Team.
