LA FERIA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Students supported by Region One are celebrating their completion of paid construction internships.

The event took place on Friday at Noble Texas Builders, where students from rural areas such as Lasara and Monte Alto ISD had the opportunity to expand their career education opportunities.

"Students may not have the skills that they may need for us in the industry, so we knew that we had to do something and find a way to reconnect with students to create this leadership/educational pipeline back into industries," said Rene Capistran, President CEO of Noble Texas.

Capistran added that they created the student internship to have experience in their career choices and a teacher externship for teachers to help find ways to engage student learning.

"Teachers have a way to develop a curriculum to engage students in industry needs," said Capistran. "So knowing [the teacher externship] allows students to learn in topics we actually need in industry as well as allows them to get focus and inspired [in the industry] in their backyard."

Capistran added, he is looking forward to next year's program and hoping to expand by adding two additional industry partners.
