Previously convicted Alamo resident pleads guilty to illegal possession of firearms

McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An Alamo resident, who was previously convicted of another crime, pleaded guilty to illegal possession of two rifles, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.

An investigation, conducted by the Alamo Police Department and The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, began when authorities had probable cause to believe narcotics were in the home of 27-year-old Hector Tellez-Hernandez.

Suspect arrested after firing up to 100 rounds in residential area, police say

On April 5, authorities conducted a search of his residence where they found two rifles, body armor and 16 grams of cocaine in his bedroom.

According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Tellez-Hernandez admitted to owning the items found during the search.

Tellez-Hernandez was previously convicted for smuggling a migrant and is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition as per federal law.

Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane will impose sentencing on Oct. 16. Tellez-Hernandez is facing up to 15 years in federal prison and a possible $250,000 fine.
