Possible 'homemade explosive' prompts evacuation in Donna, Sheriff says

DONNA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Some Donna residents are being asked to evacuate after a possible homemade explosive device was found, authorities said.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra announced at 1:18 p.m. that the sheriff's office is assisting the Texas Department of Public Safety with traffic control after a "possible homemade explosive device" was found on the 4200 block of of FM 493.

The McAllen Police Department Explosive Ordinance Disposal team is assessing the situation, Guerra added.

"Residents in the area have been evacuated as a precaution," the post stated. "Citizens are being asked to avoid the area."
