A 42-year-old Pharr man has been indicted on intoxicated manslaughter and accident involving death charges and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
Juan Antonio Perez is accused of hitting a pedestrian with his silver GMC Sierra and leaving the scene resulting in the death of the pedestrian.
According to the initial news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the auto-pedestrian crash happened at about 4:25 a.m. on July 2, 2023 at FM 907 and Wisconsin road, east of Edinburg.
The initial news release didn’t identify the victim, but the indictment identified him as Gerardo Ulloa.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Ulloa died at the scene after being hit by a vehicle.
DPS troopers later located Perez’s Sierra with damage and blood on the driver’s side at Canton Road and FM 907 and determined it to be the suspect vehicle, according to the release.
Perez showed signs of intoxication as he performed a series of standardized field sobriety tests, DPS said.
He was then charged with intoxicated manslaughter and accident involving death and taken to county jail on $125,000 in bonds. He was released on July 18, 2023, according to jail records.
