PD: 2 men arrested after aggravated robbery at Stripes, Subway

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral.) — Two men were arrested after one allegedly tried to bribe police officers during aggravated robbery arrest, police say.

Pedro Tovar, 17, was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, bribery and evading arrest. Edgar Fabricio Navar Cardon Jr., 17, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance, according to a release from the Brownsville Police Department.

At 11:43 a.m. on March 16, authorities responded to an aggravated robbery at the Stripes store located at the 800 block of International Boulevard.

The store clerk told dispatch the suspect, later identified as Tovar, pulled out a gun and demanded money from the register, the release stated.

He added that Tovar was accompanied by another man, later identified as Cardon, and both ran off toward a Subway, located at the 700 block of International Boulevard.

Dispatch later received a call of an aggravated robbery from Subway.

At 11:46 a.m. the responding officers located Tovar at the 600 block of International Boulevard. Police say as they approached Tovar, he ran away from the officers and was later apprehended at the 1400 block of E. Elizabeth Street.

During the arrest, Tovar was yelling from across the street and told Cardon to not say anything to the officers.

Police say, Cardon matched the description of the second suspect and was also arrested. During the investigation, police were able to recover the gun and unspent casing in Tovar's pockets, the release stated.

While in custody, police say Tovar told them he would give them $100 if they could guess "how long he had the casings in his pockets."

Tovar and Cardon were booked in the Brownsville City jail and were arraigned on March 17.

Tovar was issued a $183,500 bond. Cardon was issued a bond of $180,000.
