MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of McAllen announced the updating of its Land Unified Development Code.

According to the city, the overhaul intends to give land developers an easier time building in the city.

Edgar García, director of planning for the city said the change loosens restrictions that may hold developers back, "Consolidating our zoning districts, we’re introducing mixed-use zoning districts. So you’ll be able to have residential on the second and third floor and some commercial on the first floor.”

Garcia added, "We’re also cutting down on parking requirements, so that allows developers to use their property better.”

The city of McAllen said the changes will go into effect next month, and they’re currently accepting public comment over their changes until Oct. 9.
