An Edinburg school district employee who used a “spoof phone number” to send alleged harassing text messages has been arrested.

The city of Edinburg said in a news release that Jesus Ramon Mata, 55, bailed out of the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.

The investigation began last August after someone reported receiving harassing text messages in a group chat with other Edinburg CISD employees, according to a news release.

“The texts were sent using a spoof phone number created through a mobile device app to conceal the sender’s true identity,” the release stated.

No further information was immediately provided.
