WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A bicyclist was pronounced dead following a crash this morning, the Texas Department of Public Safety stated.
At approximately 6:27 a.m., troopers responded to a crash on FM 1015 north of Joe Olivarez Street, north of Weslaco.
According to a news release from Texas DPS, a preliminary investigation revealed that a man riding his bicycle was going northbound on the inside lane of FM 1015, approaching Ramiro Guerra Drive.
A 2024 Ford E-450 truck, driven by a man, was traveling behind the bicyclist, approaching Ramiro Guerra Drive, when he hit the rider.
The bicyclist, later identified as 47-year-old Gerardo Reyes Gonzalez Angeles of Donna, was thrown off the bike onto the asphalt. He sustained major injuries.
Angeles was taken to the Knapp Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
This is an ongoing investigation.
