MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The McAllen Police Department graduated its 64th cohort of officers from its police academy Friday.
The six cadets graduated into officers through extensive training of the Texas Basic Peace Officer Course, which included long hours of academics and physical fitness.
Victor Rodriguez, Chief of Police for the McAllen Police Department, says the process is a 24-week academy, followed by 10 to 12 weeks of field training before being placed on duty.

"Thanks to the support of their family and friends, the six Police Officers will now provide a service on the streets which will require their continued support," Rodriguez said.
The Chief says the police academy has another cohort of cadets training now to graduate as officers.
