DONNA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Donna Independent School District announced its first Outdoor Learning Center.

Donna ISD is kicking off multiple construction projects with a $120 million school bond proposal made in May 2023.

The project kicks off with a $250,000 Outdoor Learning Center at M. Rivas Discovery Academy.

Rosalinda Navarro, Principal of M. Rivas Discovery Academy told ValleyCentral, they are thankful to the community, district and superintendent for starting an outdoor learning center for the campus.

"This is going to benefit our students so much because [they] are young and learn by hands-on activities," Navarro said.

Donna ISD said an outdoor learning center can help students improve in academic performance, increase student engagement, social skills and physical and mental health.

"Some of our students due to COVID, weren't able to go outside and participate with other kids, so [the outdoor learning center] gives them that opportunity to socialize," Navarro added.
