DHR Health completes first epilepsy surgery in RGV

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — DHR Health and the DHR Health Comprehensive Epilepsy Center have completed the first epilepsy surgery in the Rio Grande Valley performed by a specialized physician from the region.

Dr. Juan Torres-Reveron specialized in epilepsy and was the neurosurgeon behind the procedure. His patient was 24-year-old Dante Enriquez, who began considering surgery when medications just were not enough to treat his condition.

Dr. Torres performed the surgery on June 12 and shared how they figured out how to treat it.

“Dante has a fairly typical type of epilepsy, what we call temporal lobe epilepsy. It’s a very complex disease. There is a chance that, in the future, he may have other seizures or different kinds of seizures- but the goal is to try to completely stop them or ameliorate them enough that he can continue his quality of life.”

It has now been over a month since Dante had surgery and he says he is seizure-free and that his life has changed for the better.
