PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized over $30 million worth of methamphetamine within a shipment of serrano peppers over the weekend.
Officers at the Pharr International Bridge seized the drugs after a tractor trailer from Mexico was selected for inspection.
CBP physically inspected the cargo inside the tractor trailer and later removed packages of meth concealed within the peppers.
“Our CBP officers continue to remain vigilant and intercepted this massive methamphetamine load, preventing it from reaching American streets,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.
The meth was concealed inside over 1,800 packages and weighed approximately 2,155 pounds.
CBP says the value of the meth seized was valued at $31,169,000.
