ALAMO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — ARISE Adelante and other organizations are teaching people who live in rural areas digital skills to get ahead.

Its Digital Ambassadors program aims to teach computer and internet skills to students aged 12 to 18.

They are sharing the basics like web safety, internet access, and what programs to use.

Gabriela Benitez with ARISE tells us programs like these help more people keep up to date with ever-changing technology.

“Most of them don’t know how to access an email. Don’t know sometimes how to share something on Facebook, or how to open some things. So that’s our main focus: trying to bring technologies to the colonias since everything‘s changing.”

The program is currently volunteer-only, but ARISE has plans to bring paid positions soon.
