Alleged military deserter arrested at Gateway Bridge

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An alleged military deserter was taken into custody at the Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville, authorities say.

Leonardo Garcia, 20, was charged with military desertion, according to a news release from the Cameron County Sheriff's Office.

On Thursday, Aug. 22, deputies responded to the Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville about a wanted man detained at the location.

Deputies took the man into custody, where he was later identified as Garcia. It was later revealed he had an outstanding warrant from the United States Marine Corps., Absentee Collection Center for the offense of Military Desertion.

He was booked into the Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center for processing.
