Weslaco standoff suspect to be arraigned

WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The suspect in an hours-long night standoff with Weslaco police is being arraigned this morning.

Just after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Weslaco police received calls that a man was driving around in a Chevrolet pick-up truck with a rifle near Abeline Drive. Police arrived on scene and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect but he evaded.

Police say the suspect drove to his home and proceeded to barricade himself inside for hours. After peaceful negotiations with law enforcement, the suspect was detained.

The suspect has a lengthy criminal history and is known to be a member of the Valluco gang, according to police. His wrap sheet includes the following:

• aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
• possession of a prohibited weapon
• carjacking
