Weslaco Medical Airlift base permanently closed

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The medical airlift base located in Weslaco is permanently closing.

Airlift services provided by Air Methods are closing effective immediately due to financial pressures resulting from the No Surprises Act and Medicare under reimbursement.

The base was open for almost two years and provided immediate airlift services to multiple patients.

"We are very grateful to our local partners and entire community for their unwavering support over the last couple of years," Air Methods said in a release. "We value the partnerships we built with local agencies and hospitals during our time in this community as it was through these partnerships that our shared mission of providing life-saving services was possible."

Air Methods will continue to help the community and those in need across the Rio Grande Valley and Texas through their new fixed-wing base located in New Braunfels.
