WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Weslaco has received a tax exemption for its childcare facilities.

A press conference was held Wednesday announcing plans to help city childcare centers through SB-1145.

SB-1145 protects licensed childcare facilities from increasing taxes.

At Weslaco City Hall’s Legislative Center, Mayor Adrian González announced his intentions to make use of the new Texas bill, which will grant tax exemptions to city childcare facilities.

The Mayor explained how these tax exemptions would serve to help.

“Daycares will be able to lower the price of childcare, you know. Or work together with families to be able to afford, you know, daycare services to our citizens that will allow our citizens to go out there into the workforce," said González.

The Bill became effective on January 1, 2024.
