WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Weslaco celebrated its annual Texas Onion Fest.
The event was held on Saturday in the Historic Downtown of Weslaco.
The festival celebrated the world-famous Texas 1015 Onion developed in Weslaco which became the state vegetable.
City officials said the 1015 onion got its same from its planting date, October 15.
"The festival means a lot to us, it brings people from all over the Valley to come out here to our town," said Mayor Adrian Gonzalez.
The event included live music, an onion-eating contest, kiddie rides, commercial booths, a car show, dancing horses, and more.
