WCSO: Chase ends with van crashing into game room, several injured

WILLACY COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Raymondville man is facing several assault charges after crashing a van into a building during a pursuit with law enforcement, authorities said.

George Mendez was arrested on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of criminal mischief, a post from the Willacy County Sheriff's Office stated.

At 10 a.m., WCSO deputies assisted the Cameron County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety, who were chasing a gray mini van. The chase ended when the van crashed into the Silver Dollar Game Room, located on northbound Frontage, north of Mulberry Road.

Authorities added that the building was occupied at the time of the crash, and there were injuries as a result.

"One female was transported to a local hospital in Cameron County for a back injury," the post stated.

The driver of the van, identified as Mendez, was taken into custody.
