CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Selena Quintanilla fans have mixed feelings after watching the Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them documentary on Oxygen and Peacock.

The documentary was promoted as an in-depth look at Yolanda and Selena's relationship and the events that lead up to the international star's death. The two-episode docu-series revealed new details through the lens of Saldivar's family members, police, prosecutors, and journalists from the time.

Quintanilla was shot and killed at the height of her career on March 31, 1995 by Saldivar who was also her fan club president. Since the shooting and the premier of the Selena movie in 1997, the narrative has been that Saldivar was embezzling money from Selena's fashion brand and was on the brink of being fired.

“After so many years, I think it is time to set the story straight,” Saldivar states in the documentary. Saldivar is serving a life sentence for Selena's murder in Gatesville, Texas. The interviews of her are shot within the walls of the Patrick O’ Daniel prison.

The docu-series tells the story from the perspective of Saldivar and what was going on in her life leading up to the murder. Saldivar alleges that Selena's father was threatening her leading up to Selena's death. She also states Selena and Dr. Ricardo Martinez, a plastic surgeon from Monterrey, Mexico, had a secret relationship during the stars marriage with Chris Perez.

Journalists featured in the series state that these allegations were inconsistent.

Selena’s killer breaks silence in new crime docu-series

Some Selena supporters took to social media to express their distaste with the series, stating: "I'm out here wasting two hours of my life on Yolanda Saldivar who has yet to say a damn thing to justify any of her actions," one viewer wrote.

However, others were intrigued to learn about the other side of the story.

"Very interesting documentary," wrote @_heyyjessee_11 on X. "Unlike many others, I kept my mind open and there was some really sketchy stuff done by Selena’s dad. I’ve always had a bad feeling about him. He’s creepy! No doubt that Yolanda killed her, no one can argue that but wowwww."

Saldivar talks about the day of the murder, stating her emotions were running high and that she was only showing Selena the gun prove she would shoot herself to pledge her loyalty to the Tejana star.

"You took took that lady's life and we're mad !!! There is no record to set straight. Rot in prison," said @LeleeLyons on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Other viewers seem to not have chosen a definitive side and state they are more confused now, knowing Saldivar's story.

"This Yolanda documentary has me so shook and still so confused! what was the reason for killing Selena!!! I have sooo many questions," wrote @ARIANNAx97 on X.

The family of Saldivar say they are also on both sides, divided by blood and friendship.

Saldivar is eligible for parole on March 30, 2025. Her family states they wish their aunt to live the rest of her life in peace.
