EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is commited to breaking down barriers and providing for future students, one donation at a time.

UTRGV is prepared to host its Day of Giving, a day dedicated to raise funds for college students as a way to break down financial obstacles.

The money raised during UTRGV Day of Giving goes towards services, programs, scholarship and research initiatives that directly impact the students, faculty and staff at the university.

"We believe wholeheartedly that when our students succeed, our region succeeds and so that is the motivation behind the work that we do during Day of Giving," said Kelli Quin, Assistant Vice President of Development at UTRGV.

This fundraiser goal is to surpass the amount raised last year.

"If we can get above that $100,000 mark, that would be phenomenal," Quin said. "At the end of the day, it's not that final number that matters. Every dollar counts."

Donors can decide which area of the university they want to support including the Student Food Pantry, scholarships, athletics and academic colleges.

The online-only fundraiser is now open until 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 30.
