TxDOT alerts drivers traveling towards Corpus Christi of 'major crash'

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Transportation is alerting Valley drivers traveling northbound of backed up traffic heading towards the Corpus Christi area.

The crash happened at the northbound lanes of the Nueces River Bridge on Interstate 37 in Callalen where drivers decide whether to drive towards Corpus Christi or San Antonio.

Callalen is approximately 15 miles from Corpus Christi.

"Traffic is backed up to Sharpsburg [Road] on I-37 northbound and FM 624 on US 77 in Calallen," TxDOT announced.

Delays are expected as the crash site has been reduced to one lane. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
