Two charged following discovery of illegal gambling operation in Donna

Two men were charged Thursday following the discovery of nearly 30 gambling machines and the seizure of an undisclosed amount of cash at a property in Donna.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office identified the two men as Luis Gabriel Martinez, 37, and Josue Ivan Carbarin, 18.

Sheriff’s investigators executed a search warrant Wednesday at a property located in the 6900 block of Kathy Lane in Donna, according to a news release.

The operation resulted in the arrests of Martinez and Carbarin, in addition to investigators discovering and disabling 27 gambling machines as well as seizing an undisclosed amount of cash.

The sheriff’s office said both men were charged with evading arrest, keeping a gambling place, possession of gambling device/equipment, gambling promotion and engaging in organized criminal activity.

Martinez and Carbarin received a total of $30,000 in bonds.

“The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to enforcing state laws against illegal gambling operations,” the release stated. “We encourage the public to report any suspicious activity.”
