HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) - The National Hurricane Center says winds have strengthened and Sara is now a tropical storm in the Caribbean with the chance of eventually moving into the Gulf of Mexico.
The center of the storm is moving west near 12 mph and should continue in that direction, bringing the center near the cost of eastern Honduras.
It is expected to make its way into the Gulf of Mexico no later than Tuesday morning.
An Air Force Reserve aircraft indicates the winds have increased to near 40 mph with higher gusts, so the system could strengthen if it remains over water.
The current path of the tropical storm according to the National Hurricane Center takes it away from the Valley and possibly toward southeast Texas.
