CAMERON COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A teenager is jailed on murder charges in connection to a deadly shooting that took place during a drug transaction, authorities said.

On Saturday, deputies responded to Katarina and Florencia Avenues in reference to a man who had been shot multiple times. When they arrived, they met with the reporting party who said the man had been shot in the neck.

Investigators learned that the victim was conducting a drug deal when the suspect demanded the victim give him the money and drugs, authorities allege.

"The victim attempted to calm the suspect down but was consequently shot in the back," the release stated.

On Sunday, investigators located surveillance footage of the suspect, identified as Sanchez, leaving the scene. The release added that he lived in the vicinity.

Investigators approached his residence where they found him setting clothes on fire. Sanchez confessed to shooting the man and burning the clothing he was wearing at the time of the killing, authorities said.

He was arrested and transported to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center and is pending arraignment.
