EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An 18-year-old Edinburg student will be arraigned Thursday in connection to an officer-involved shooting incident that prompted a high school lockdown.

Alvaro Alcudia was arrested on charges of aggravated assault against a public servant and will be arraigned at 2:30 p.m., the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office announced.

The Edinburg Police Department held a news conference Wednesday after an officer-involved shooting prompted a lockdown at Economedes High School.

At the conference, Edinburg Police Chief Jaime Ayala said the department received a call from Edinburg CISD police in reference to a stolen vehicle located on campus.

At 4:16 p.m., investigators approached the student, and he entered the stolen vehicle. As they approached, Alcudia allegedly accelerated the vehicle, striking the investigator's unit, Ayala said.

This prompted the investigator to shoot his weapon, which was not believed to have struck Alcudia, who fled the scene.
