EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — South Texas Health System (STHS) hosted a grand opening Thursday morning to celebrate its upgraded facility.

The Outpatient Rehabilitaiton Center is the system's newly expanded facility that offers physical, occupational and speech therapy.

Before the upgrade, STHS offered only physicial therapy with one therapist onsite.

Now, there will be 15 therapists to serve patients of all disciplines and disabilities at the facility, located on 7112 N. 10th St. in McAllen.

"We want to make sure that we offer any possible thing to help any type of person that comes in," said Rick Flores, Rehab System Administrator at STHS.

Additional resources offered at the facility are an orthopedic gym, custom orthotics, dysphasia, neuro, cardiopulmonary and Parkinson's programs.

"If the community is growing, if our hospitals growing, we continue to grow for them," Flores continued.

Rosaura Rodea, a patient and survivor at STHS, expressed her gratitude for the new facility.

Rodea was hospitalized with flu and pneumonia in Feburary of this year.

"I became critically ill and that brought me to my weakness on my body," Rodea said. "I was in need of therapy."

Rodea has undergone four months of therapy sessions at STHS as she continues to recover her strength.

"They've been tremendous. It's been a blessing and I have been recovering," Rodea said. "I was at a level four required for oxygen. Slowly but surely, I've been coming down to a level two or one. I encourage this place to anyone who's needing therapy sessions."
