MCALLEN, Texas – Dr. Ricardo Solis, president of South Texas College, gave an exclusive interview to the Rio Grande Guardian International News Service, at the conclusion of the college’s 3rd Annual Workforce Summit.
The half-day summit was held in the Student Union building on STC’s Pecan Campus in McAllen.
In the interview, Solis spoke about the college’s push to get more employers to consider apprenticeship programs, the ability of STC to pivot quickly to the workforce training needs of industry, a new tie-up with a college in Reynosa, and how to best utilize AI.
“One of the biggest advantages of community colleges is that they are able to quickly adapt and change to whatever the needs are from industry,” Solis said. “We have that flexibility to move quickly. From month to month if necessary.”
