PHARR, Texas – The City of Pharr has hired a new assistant director for the Pharr International Bridge.

George Selvera’s job is to bring in new business.

“The city has asked me to bring in 60 new accounts every year. That means more companies using the bridge,” Selvera said.

Selvera has many years of experience in the fields of contract manufacturing, shelter manufacturing, management services, prototyping, research and development, and outsourcing.

“I used to work for ShelterMex, bringing customers as a shelter operator to Reynosa, Mexico. We were based in the Chase building in McAllen. We had operations in the McAllen Free Trade Zone and in an industrial park in Reynosa. I was there for 12 years,” Selvera said.

After this, Selvera was an independent consultant. His work commitments have taken him as far afield as China and Vietnam. In North America he has represented business in Mexico, Canada and the United States.

“I am very happy to be part of the Pharr International Bridge team. I have only been here for two weeks but if anybody needs my help, I’m here to support,” Selvera said.

“My job is to increase the number of bridge crossings from Mexico to United States. And potentially bring in new customers in order to increase the income for the Pharr Bridge.”

Selvera said this means a lot of time will be spent traveling Mexico.

“This is an exciting challenge. I’m very excited. I’m very happy. I have a lot of experience. I have more than 20 years of experience in bringing customers down here to the Valley. And now I’m more than happy because I’m representing the Pharr International Bridge.”

Asked if there is anything else he would like to add, Selvera said: “I want everybody can come and see me when they need any support. I am more than happy to serve.”

Selvera’s new email address, should potential customers wish to reach him, is: George.Selvera@Pharr-TX.gov.

Luis Bazan, director of the Pharr International Bridge, said he is happy to have Selvera in the Pharr team.

“We have been talking about this at several meetings. We have a collaboration between the Pharr EDC and the Bridge. And as part of that collaboration, we have a strategic plan to increase our market share,” Bazan said.

“George brings a lot of that to the picture because one of his major strengths is the maquila world. He was in manufacturing for many years – I believe over 30 years or even longer. So, he has a lot of contacts in Mexico. He brings that to the picture, as I said. And so, the main responsibility is bringing in more accounts. Let’s open up more accounts in Pharr. And investments, also.”
