Sea Turtle Inc. is asking residents to make an environmentally friendly choice to donate natural Christmas trees to help build sand dunes.

The nonprofit is accepting trees through Saturday, Jan. 4.

Wendy Knight, CEO of Sea Turtle Inc., said recycled natural Christmas trees play a crucial role in restoring and stabilizing sand dunes, which act as natural barriers to protect sea turtle hatchlings.

“The trees help trap and hold sand, contributing to the strengthening of our dunes and enhancing the protection of our vulnerable hatchlings,” Knight said in a news release.

Sea Turtle Inc. is asking that the trees be dropped off in the grassy area by the main gate where clear signage will guide participants.

The trees can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Please ensure all ornaments, lights, tinsel, and other decorations have been completely removed before drop-off. Artificial trees cannot be accepted,” the release stated.
