Point Isabel ISD employee faces new charges of soliciting minor during school hours

PORT ISABEL, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A Point Isabel Independent School District employee pleaded not guilty to new child sex charges Wednesday. Court documents accuse him of soliciting a minor during school hours.

Omar Vera was arrested in February after allegedly distributing harmful material to a minor. On Wednesday, Vera was arraigned on:

  • One count of child grooming
  • Four counts of online solicitation (explicit communication) of a minor
  • Three counts of online solicitation (explicit material) of a minor during school hours
  • One count of online solicitation (explicit communication) of a minor/student during school hours
  • One count of online solicitation (for sexual conduct) of a minor/student during school hours
  • One count of online solicitation (explicit communication) of a minor

An indictment revealed new messages that were allegedly exchanged between the student and Vera.

One message shows that Vera said "I want you so bad sometimes, but I know I have all these restrictions about me."

The indictment includes another message that states, "I want to remind you ever since that day in the room is when I officially became your owner. I got to use and abuse your body how I felt like it."

The indictment includes a third message that states that Vera asked the victim, "Hey nerd ... want to make some extra credit," before making plans to meet the student after school.

The document also states that Vera sent pornographic videos to the child while they were in school. The indictment includes several other graphic messages that Vera allegedly sent to the student.

Vera remains jailed in Cameron County on a $180,000 bond. He pleaded not guilty to the new charges and has a trial scheduled in September.
