Pharr PD: Armed burglar retreats after victim also had weapon

PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Pharr Police Department arrested a man accused of kicking in a man's door while armed, documents show.

David Ignacio Hernandez, 25, was arrested on charges of burglary of habitation with intent to commit a felony, Hidalgo County Jail records state.

At 5:23 p.m. Sept. 4, 2023 officers responded to an burglary at 901 W. Sam Houston Boulevard. There officers were informed by the victim that he had ongoing issues with his neighbor and threw her the middle finger earlier that day.

Later, his neighbor, another man and her brother, identified as Hernandez, showed up to the victim's apartment and began banging on his door, according to a criminal complaint.

The victim then went to his patio with a can of pepper spray and began to argue with both his neighbor and Hernandez.

"Oh, you have mace," Hernandez said before retreating to his vehicle. His sister then replied, "You have mace, we have something bigger and better."

The victim then went inside his apartment and noticed Hernandez had come back with a gun while looking through his security camera. He then took out his weapon and had it ready.

Hernandez kicked the door and eventually forced it open, the document stated. While he attempted to enter the apartment, he noticed the victim also had a gun and walked away.

Hernandez was booked on Feb. 2 and released Feb 14. on a bond of $5,000.
