Peñitas PD search for suspect involved in fatal hit-and-run

PEÑITAS, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Peñitas police are asking for the public's help in finding the driver responsible for a fatal hit and run.

At 8:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, authorities responded to an auto-ped collision at the 3400 block of Tom Gill, just north of 3 Mile Line.

That is where police found the unresponsive woman, Maria Cirlos. According to a news release from the department, a witness at the scene began performing CPR on Cirlos until EMS paramedics arrived at the scene.

Cirlos was taken to a local hospital where she later died.

Investigators say the vehicle involved in the fatal crash is a dark-colored GMC Sierra with noticeable front-end damage. According to police, the truck was last seen traveling southbound on Tom Gil Road.
