SAN BENITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Road closures are underway in San Benito following an oil spill accident, according to the Texas Department of Transporation.
The oil spill is reported to be approximately a quarter-mile long between Shafer Road and the railroad tracks along FM 509.
TxDOT is closing the southbound outside lane from the railroad tracks to Shafer Road.
According to TxDOT, the spill was caused by a tractor malfunction.
It is estimated that 125 gallons of oil spilled in the area.
A chemical response team is on the scene to assist with clean up. TxDOT estimates it will take up to four hours to clear the area.
