BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Noble Texas Builders has set up a $40,000 endowment to benefit students at Texas Southmost College.

The La Feria-based company has made one of its biggest allocations yet for workforce development and the money is going to help students needing financial assistance.

A symbolic check presentation took place Wednesday, Dec. 18 at TSC’s International Technology, Education and Commerce (ITEC) complex.

The brief ceremony was largely attended by the college board of trustees, ITEC staff and Noble representatives.

Christine Blouch, Noble Foundation Director, said this is the first step in a much larger commitment because of Noble’s desire to invest in the community.

“This is one of our largest endowments to close the gap between education and workforce training,” Blouch said. “A community grows based on the partnerships it has with others.”

Valeria Vega, with Noble Leadership Academy, said the company’s commitment to empowering students to be successful can be achieved by investing.

She said some with the older workforce are getting ready to retire and will need to be replaced at some point.

Vega said a two-year degree pays good dividends but emphasized not everyone has the financial means to attend college, let alone a university.

The $40,000 endowment will be used to set up a scholarship program for students interested in pursuing technical careers.

A scholarship recipient will have to be enrolled in what is known as HVAC, which stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

TSC Board of Foundation members Adela Garza and Roy De Los Santos couldn’t stress enough the importance of getting a training degree. But, at the same time, they said, having the financial means to attend college is critical. They said this can be a huge barrier for those without disposable income. They both thanked Noble.

Jesus Roberto Rodriguez, the TSC president, said his college is proud of the partnership it has with Noble. “TSC is the destination place for workforce training,” he said.

And switching to Noble, Rodriguez, said: “They have embraced our community and our workforce.

“Thank you Mr. (Rene) Capistran,” he added, referring to the company president. “We can’t do it alone.”
