Meet Kahil Fennell: UTRGV Men's Basketball Coach

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The newly named head coach for the UTRGV Men's Basketball team stopped by the ValleyCentral studios to talk about his plans for the Vaquero Basketball program.

Kahil Fennell has been the Vaquero men's basketball head coach for less than a week but has hit the ground running.

He says he is excited to be in the Rio Grande Valley and has high expectations from his staff and players.

"From a leadership standpoint, I like to lead with love. They're [team] are gonna know that I love them, my staff loves them, and we care about them, we want the best for them on and off the floor. We want to teach them something, we want to hold them to a standard. We want to compete at the highest level. We're going to recruit competitive players. I think if you can hang your hat on toughness, love, and competition, you can go a long way. That's the kind of principles and tenants of our program," said Fennell.

Fennell added he is excited to be part of the UTRGV community and fan base. He hopes and encourages the public to come out and support the team and is ready to put out a product the RGV can be proud of.
