McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A McAllen man was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child and sentenced to 30 years in prison, according to an Hidalgo County judge.

Carlos Mario Vargas (Hidalgo County)

Carlos Mario Vargas, 41, entered a plea of guilty Tuesday to two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

On Dec. 8, 2019, McAllen police received a report regarding two minors who were sexually assaulted. The children, age 8 and 10, were asked questions by a forensic interviewer and each underwent a sexual assault examination.

The investigation revealed that Vargas had sexually abused both children on various occasions.

“Our office, together with the ongoing support and dedication from local law enforcement agencies will continue to devote all necessary resources to bring child predators to justice,” said Hidalgo County District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios.

The case was heard by Judge Ysmael Fonseca in the 476th District Court of Hidalgo County.
