McAllen International Airport welcomes non-stop flights to Austin

MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The McAllen International Airport launched its latest non-stop flight destination to the live music capital of the world.

Delta Airlines will be operating three daily flights from McAllen to Austin starting in the morning to late evening.

"Austin had been missing here in McAllen in the Hidalgo County servicing this area for a long time," Jeremy Santoscoy, Director of Aviation at McAllen International Airport said. "Very important flight to connect us to government, to education, to leisure, to music."

May 4 early voting locations now open

The inaugural flight from McAllen to Austin departed at 1 p.m. Monday. It was a fully booked flight, according to the McAllen International Airport.

"If that's not a good sign, I don't know what it is," Santoscoy said. "We're definitely looking forward to promoting the route and making sure that everybody knows about it."

"This is for everybody. Whether it's work or play family time, whatever it is. Now you can get there in one hour," said Javier Villalobos, Mayor of McAllen.

Travel-goers can now book a non-stop flight from McAllen to Austin on the McAllen International Airport website.
