Mother of McAllen Marine speaks out about his death

McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The mother of a marine and McAllen native killed during an accident at the Marine Corps base Camp Pendleton last month spoke to reporters today of her heartbreak.

Guadalupe Maya said her only son Miguel Angel Maya was only 23-years-old. The military showed up at her door to tell her he'd died on April 23.

She says the wait for confirmation of his passing and arrival of his body have only dragged on their mourning.

Miguel was a graduate of Sharyland High School and joined the Marine Corps in 2020.

Maya says she remains strong as she awaits the arrival of her son's remains on May 8 at the McAllen International Airport.
