PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Matt's Building Materials is set to open its doors and welcome customers back to its Pharr location for a grand re-opening celebration.
The grand re-opening comes over two years after a fire spread and completely destroyed the original store on New Years Day in 2022.
"We are excited for everyone to see all our hard work and effort that has gone into building it back," Matt's Building Materials announced on their social media.
The fire burned down the building that stood for 50 years as the Rio Grande Valley's staple lumberyard and home improvement center.
Firefighters from multiple departments responded to the massive fire, fully containing the blaze after 30 hours.
Owners of Matt's decided to move forward after the blaze and re-build a new store where the original one stood.
"Right after the fire was the hardest part, but the messages we received from the community kept us going," said Isaac Smith, co-owner of Matt's Building Materials.
The 90,000 square-foot store will stand at it's original location, showcasing familiar and new departments and products.
"We're very blessed to have the support from our community and the city, everyone has gone above and beyond to help us," Smith continued.
Matt's Building Materials will re-open its doors and celebrate from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday, April 13 on the 404 E. Expressway 83 in Pharr.
Food, music and prizes will be available at the grand re-opening.
