BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man was sentenced to prison Wednesday after a body was found stabbed to death near a resaca in Brownsville.
Joshua Ramirez was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of Luis Rivera-Gonzalez, a news release from the Cameron County District Attorney's Office stated.
On July 20, 2022, deputies with the Cameron County Sheriff's Office responded to N. Illinois Avenue in Brownsville where they found Rivera-Gonzalez's body near a resaca with "visible stab wounds and lacerations," authorities said.
Investigators were able to determine two suspects in the case: Ramirez, and Veronica Posas, a news release from the Cameron County Sheriff's Office stated. The two were arrested on July 23 and 22 on charges of capital murder.
The DA's news release added that the investigation revealed that Ramirez killed Rivera-Gonzalez while stealing his vehicle.
“These plea deals don’t just happen. They are the result of the extensive and complete trial
preparation work put in by the prosecutors. Their hard work, along with the support of the
Cameron County District Attorney staff as whole, goes a long way to ensure justice is secured for
victims,” said District Attorney Luis V. Saenz.
On Wednesday, the State also filed a motion to dismiss the case against Posas.
