HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — This week on Inside Valley Politics we’ll talk with Republican State Representative Janie Lopez about how the border is being addressed by leaders in Austin at the state capitol.

"There's some legislation that we got through and some legislation that got killed obviously,” Lopez said.

We’ll also talk with Cameron County Democratic Party Chair Jarod Hockema and Starr County Republican Party Chair Toni Trevino. We’ll analyze early voting turnout in the Valley for the most recent elections.

"We work really hard, I think all the parties in all the counties, to make sure that its easiest for people to vote,” Hockema told Inside Valley Politics.

He said more than 70% of the ballots cast in the May 4 elections in Cameron County were submitted by early voting.

“It is a convenience factor,” said Trevino. “But I think early voting is sort of a tradition in Starr County and probably much of South Texas."
